DJ Davids interest in music (mainly pop, dance, chart and R n B) started many many years ago and during his teenage years he got an ever growing interest in DJing.
After spending many hours both at home and in Bar Risa watching his friend DJ he finally got the opportunity he was was looking for - to DJ himself to a live crowd. This opportunity couldn't have come at a bigger time - during the 2005 Pride Weekend. The first gig he performed was in Bar Risa on their second floor and after being a little nervous he got settled into the swing of things and had a really good night. After having this first taste of DJing to a live crowd David was eager for more. And, less than a month later, David finally got what he was looking for - his first residency.
During September of 2005 David was approached by Via on Canal Street to take over their Wednesday pop night which he accepted and built up to be a successful night which he DJed for almost 4 years. As well as the regular Wednesday slot David was also asked to perform many one off events, including Pride events, Easter, Christmas and private parties.
During April of 2006, after settling in well at Via, David was approached by the New Union Hotel & Showbar to do a Saturday and Sunday residency entertaining hundreds of people every single weekend. During this time there were many successful weekends - the highlight being Pride 2006 when David DJed successful nights throughout the entire bank holiday weekend on the Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. During his time here his hours were extended as the afternoons and evenings were getting more popular. David stayed here for just under a year, while continuing Via, and decided to leave due to challenging and tiring work commitments as well as to seek a new challenge.
During 2007, David played many one off gigs including venues such as Napoleons in Manchesters Gay Village.
In 2008, while still playing at Via, David decided once again to prioritise DJing (moving it from part time to full time) and went in search of a new residency. Having approached the new managers of Café La Belle, who had moved the highly successful venue from Gran Canaria, (formally Hollywood Showbar) in Manchesters Gay Village and having played a successful test night David was offered a Sunday and Monday residency. Although quite successful the bar unfortunately decided to relocate back to Gran Canaria and it was once again all change as the venue was taken over by new management.
During 2008, David carried on playing Via as well as other one off gigs at bars and clubs both in and out of the Village including Easter 2008 at Via, the 2008 Pride event at Via and Christmas parties at The Oxford on Oxford Road in Manchester.
In March 2009, David has taken up a position as a Resident DJ at The Thompsons Arms in Manchester working alongside DJ Paul who together provide entertainment 7 nights a week. David was working Tuesday and Wednesday nights on the main floor and Friday and Saturday nights on the upper floor. At the end of 2009, due to other commitments, DJ David decided to leave his residency at the Thompsons Arms.
David remained active throughout 2010 securing a new residency at the New Road Inn in Blackpool, his first residency out of the Manchester area. David took up this role in July 2010 following a change of management at the New Road Inn. David was working Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights as well as occasionally helping out with the karaoke and performing at special nights at the pub. By September 2010 it was again time for David to return to University and due to the long commute with Manchester he reluctantly had to give up his post there but hopes one day to return.
Also in 2010, David played at Manchester Pride 2010 (his fourth time DJing at Pride) on the Village Square Stage. This experience was much different to the pub and club environment that David was used to but was a great experience and one that he wishes to repeat.
During 2011, David got his wish and again played on the Village Square Stage at Manchester Pride 2011, Prides 21st birthday and also David's 5th Pride DJing birthday!! It was another great year at Pride with David playing the best of the 80s, 90s and now and also some great acts on stage. This was definitely the best year for the Village Square Stage so far and David hopes again to make it three years running on the Village Square Stage at Manchester Pride 2012!
